Dr. Satishkr. Khadia from the Aaranyak recognizes the importance of sustainable livelihoods for forest-dependent communities. With the support of the Forest Development Agency (FDA), community members are engaged in the collection and sale of Minor Forest Produce (MFP) such as medicinal plants, honey, resins, fruits, and other non-timber products.
This initiative not only helps in generating sustainable income for local communities but also promotes the responsible use of forest resources without harming biodiversity. By linking communities with value-added processing and market opportunities, the programme strengthens their economic resilience while encouraging conservation.
The involvement of Vanasree units under the Kerala Forest Department further ensures fair trade practices and transparent systems, empowering communities to improve their livelihoods through forest-based enterprises.
Such initiatives reflect the core philosophy of “Conservation with People’s Participation”, ensuring that biodiversity conservation and community welfare go hand in hand.
